Does your child have a 504 Plan at school but you are not seeing any accomodations being made?
Are you watching your child struggle with academics and they are falling farther and farther behind?
Has anyone told you to look into an IEP for your child but you have no idea where to begin?
Manuevering the school system, public or private, can feel like an uphill battle when your child does not learn in the “traditional” ways. As a parent, it is heartbreaking watching your child begin to dislike school more and more. And those fights to do homework…they are exhausting, aren’t they? I know you never imagined your evenings would be hours of homework, which include crying, yelling, and ripping up papers.
It does not have to be that difficult and I know that I can help.
I started my counseling journey as a school counselor and in that capacity I provided services and accomodations for students with academic, social and emotional needs. I also coordinated a team of teachers dedicated to discovering ways to accomodate students’ needs and bring them academic success.
Now that I am in private practice, I still like to assist parents with helping their child succeed academically. Often times, children have a diagnosable issue that is causing them to fall behind. This is where a Section 504 Plan can help give them accomodations in the classroom that help level the playing field, so to speak. Other times, students have a measurable gap between their intellect and their ability, which can also be caused by a diagnosable issue. This is when an Individual Education Plan (IEP) can help your student find academic success while providing necessary services and accomodations at school.
